Youth Mental Health First Aid
Providing Arizona adults with the knowledge and tools to support youth mental health and intervene when it matters most.

Since October 2018, AZYP has offered Youth Mental Health First Aid Training. Youth Mental Health First Aid is an approved curriculum for the Arizona's Department of Education required Suicide Prevention Training.

What is Youth Mental Health First Aid?

Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach teachers, family members, caregivers, school staff, health and human services workers and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent (age 12-18) who is experiencing a mental health challenge or is in crisis.

What Will You Learn?

The course covers common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step plan for how to help young people in crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (AD/HD), and eating disorders.
