In Partnership With Communities, AzYP Cultivates Healthy Foundations for Youth and Promotes Strong Families

Healthy Youth. Healthy Families. Healthy Communities.

AzYP’s life enhancing programs take a three-pronged, comprehensive approach focusing in three areas: Community Mobilization, Foundations for Youth, and Championing Families. In 2008-2009, 38,492 youth and adults participated in AzYP’s programs

Monique- Phoenix, Rising

Monique made some bad decisions and was taken into the Juvenile Justice system. After being released to her parents she was ordered to attend AzyP’s WAKE UP! course. While in the program, Monique realized the destructive path her life was headed and vowed to make healthier decisions.

Kimberly- New Choices

“Thank you for explaining about abstinence and renewed virginity. I have made some decisions that I regret and dealt with some of the consequences that you have talked about this week. I’m going to make some changes, and I am going to start by signing the abstinence pledge.”

Promising Practice

In June 2009 Arizona Youth Partnership’s Healthy Marriages/Strong Families program received nation-wide notoriety and was awarded “Promising Practice” status by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Family Assistance; only sixteen of the two hundred twenty six grantees received such awards.

Susan- Effective Communication

Susan, an eighth grade peer mentor, found herself in a bad situation that led to a meeting with the school Principal. With her newly acquired skills, she was able to clearly, honestly, and directly communicate with adults. “It means a lot to me to finally understand how to communicate.”.

Arizona Youth Partnership (AzYP) based in Tucson, Arizona, works with youth and families across the state to bring resources to under-served communities. Since 1990, Arizona Youth Partnership has made great strides in reaching Arizona’s children, youth, and families in 29 communities in 9 counties. AzYP seeks to keep youth in school, off of drugs and alcohol, reduce pregnancies, teen births, sexually transmitted diseases, and create safe, drug-free communities, and healthy environments for children, youth, and families in communities and Native American Reservations across Arizona. Recently, our "Healthy Marriages/Strong Families" program was selected as a "Promising Practice" by the US Dept. of Health & Human Services' Administration for Children & Families, Office of Family Assistance.
